It is a fundamental human right to have a voice to express our thoughts, opinions, and feelings and exchange knowledge with those around us. Reem believes that her role as a Speech-Language Pathologist is to help children find their voices through a set of skills they can add to their "tool belt" and utilize when they face adversity inside the classroom and in their daily social interactions.
Reem adopts a strength model to foster confident learners who independently advocate for what they need to be successful. In her treatment, Reem uses a metacognitive approach to improve children's awareness of their strengths to use them as stepping stones to overcome academic challenges. She encourages a growth mindset, so children can recognize and celebrate their competencies and build upon them with strategy-based instruction. When children are mindful of their learning process, they can reflect, evaluate, plan, and problem solve strategically and efficiently. As a result, true growth starts to flourish so that eventually, children become the champions of their fate.
As someone who sought education over 6,398 miles away from home, Reem is often asked what motivated her to make such a demanding, time-consuming, and expensive life change. She has offered people a myriad of replies. However, the most accurate she has given is her desire to enrich the world by serving others. She is equipped with tools to understand who a person is and how to collaborate with them, especially when their worldview varies from hers. Her abroad experiences have taught her about the common thread of humanity, which values full life, family, community, and functional ability.
As a parent herself, Reem experiences abundant joy when her daughters learn a new skill. Because she deeply cares about the families she works with, she strives to provide the best care, so they can rejoice in witnessing their child thrive.
